Process Mining
Process mining is technique which allows to extract information from event logs. Event logs are produced by process aware information systems. These event logs contain; case ids, event names and types etc.
Event logs may also contain; customer ids, product types and other decision attributes.
Process Mining is an important part of the BPM tool kit. There are various opportunities for organisations to make use of this capability. Process mining will show what the application is doing and what resources are being used. Process mining is an important part of BPM.

Classification
Process Mining is classified into following techniques:
- Discovery
- Conformance Analysis
- Extension
Advantages
- Process Discovery: The discovery of the process model is made automatically. This implies a major change compared to traditional modelling approaches: the first step is process analysis and the identification of improvement opportunities, not modelling.
- Conformity checking: The great advantage of process mining is that it is possible to check in 100% of the cases if the company policies or legal requirements are being met, supporting the auditors and managers in this regard.
- Performance Management: Business Intelligence shows for example how many complaints were made, response time, by category and other attributes, but hides where people waste time or perform more tasks beyond that necessary, repetitions, duplication, etc. On the contrary, process mining shows managers where they must act to achieve the performance expected and can act in real time, because its process based information.
- Requirements Engineering: It contributes to align your enterprise systems because it monitors the usage of business process applications that are deployed as well as to gather feedback from the user community of these applications. The entire set of user wishes and objective observations are translated into requirements engineering process.
